Ken McConnell Scribd Love

Null_Pointer continues to heat up on Scribd. We are close to having 6000 views and 500 downloads. The downloads part is the most interesting to me, because most people probably read it off line. Every since we hit the main page a week ago, we have been getting over a hundred views a day on the book. This is way cool. A big Thank You to all my Scribd viewers! If you are going to Fandemonium here in the Boise area in two weeks, I will have a limited number of N_P books available for a redu… Continue

Ken McConnell It's Away!

The final version of Null_Pointer has been uploaded and ordered for review. I hope to have some copies available at Fandemonium. The biggest visible difference in the final version is the migration of page numbers from the bottom of the page, to the top of the page. This appears to be the publishing trend of the moment and I happen to believe that it makes the book easier to read and find a particular page. Especially in the FREE pdf version. You can see the final version now on Scribd o… Continue

Ken McConnell Have you read The Safe Cracker yet?

The new short story set in the Joshua Jones book series is available on Scribd, right from the front page. Digg it if you like it. Spread the word! Also, I have an idea for another short story set in this series and featuring Joshua Jone's girlfriend - Dancia Rivers. If you loved Dancia in Null_Pointer, you will totally love this new story. I will be bashing out that story, tentatively titled "Luser", in the next few weeks. Check back here regularly for details. Book update: The NP paperback i… Continue

This is the second version of the Null_Pointer bookmark. Unless anyone can find a tragic misspelling or graphic foobar, this will be the final version.

Ken McConnell Null_Pointer on Scribd Homepage

Most of you know that I freely give away the entire manuscript for my books in an effort to get people to try a new author and to get my name out in the world. My chosen method for giving away the novels and short stories is a web bite named Scribd. If you go to my Scribd page, you will find just about everything that I have self-published, for free. Wednesday I Twittered Scribd the link for Null_Pointer and they promptly put the book on their front page in two categories. Very cool! As a resul… Continue

Ken McConnell New Photo Walk Pics!

Reader and writer, Bill Blohm has added some pictures of local establishments mentioned in the Null_Pointer novel. If you are not from Boise, or are not familiar with some of these locals, I think you will enjoy looking at them. I wish I had these images while I was writing! ;) Thanks Bill! Continue

Ken McConnell Final Title, Photo Album

I blogged about the last days of the book's cover design over on My View. What you will notice here at the book's web site is a subtle change to the subtitle of the book's cover. It is now officially known as: NULL_POINTER A Joshua Jones Mystery. This clarifies that the book is in fact a Mystery and that it is the start of a series of books featuring Joshua Jones. I guess this means I'm committed to write another book! The next… Continue

Ken McConnell Update 27 June 2009

Back from my trip to Seattle and looking over the latest NP proof copy and I see still more little things that need fixing before I can release the paper version. So plan on another two weeks before I can once again approve it for release. Many thanks to Jane Soehner for reading through this latest version and pointing out the more grievous errors. Continue

Ken McConnell Final Proof Waiting For Me

The final proof of Null_Pointer is at my house and ready for my approval. Unfortunately, I'm not at my house, I'm in Ronald McDonald's House in Seattle. My son is having heart surgery next week and we are not scheduled to be home until the following weekend. So needless to say, the NP proof will have to wait. As soon as I can get to it and find the time to look it over, I will approve it for sale. Not sure how long it will take to get into the distribution channels, but you should be able to pu… Continue

Ken McConnell Null_Pointer Photo Walk

I've been placing pictures that readers have sent me of places in Null_Pointer in the Photos section of this site. If you live in Boise or McCall and you have some nice snap shots of the places mentioned in the book, add them to the site! That way readers from outside the area can get an idea of where the novel is set. It's also a great way to show off your mad photography skilz! Continue

Ken McConnell Final Proof Ordered

I ordered the final proof of NP last night. Be cool if it got to me by next Monday, but that would be just about impossible. In any case, I should be able to approve it and release the book for sale the week of the 23rd. I have no idea how soon thereafter you will be able to order it. I also added some cover pictures to the Photos section of this site. So reviewers can download them and use them on their blogs and such. Feel free to snag them and use them to promote the book in any way you want… Continue

Ken McConnell First Proof Copy

The first proof copy of NP is now at the local indie bookstore, making the rounds with the folks who work there. I went over it carefully and sent my corrections to Byron for the final proof copy. The final proof will be ordered next weekend. June 5 is the deadline for reviewers to get me their blurbs for the back cover. I'm hoping for blurbs from local a local computer club and Ham Radio club. When's the last time you saw reviews for a fiction book from non-authors? Yeah, me neither. I think i… Continue

Ken McConnell NP Release Date

There is not an official release date for Null_Pointer - yet. But there is a published in month - June 2009. So that means that some time in June, you should be able to purchase the book. Update: The book's interior PDF is now complete but for one, important item, the ISBN. As soon as the cover art is done in the next few days, I will upload both interior and exterior PDFs and then purchase the ISBN through the publisher, LuLu. This weekend I will be ordering the first proof book. Depending o… Continue

Ken McConnell Change up

With the move of my main blog, My View, I am consolidating my blogging efforts for all things writing related. If you are following the progress of NP on this blog, you will have to move to My View to continue to get those updates. I will be saving this blog for communicating with my readers as they come aboard for this novel. So this blog will come off more as a public relations outlet than a nuts and bolts about the book and writing. Thanks for your pa… Continue

Ken McConnell Dark Cover

Good friend and beta reader, Nate McIntyre mentioned in passing that the cover art for NP might look good in negative. In other words, black instead of white. Another beta reader and good friend, Bill Blohm ran with that idea and created an inverse cover using the artwork by Byron McConnell. The result is this, hacked up version of a possible dark cover for NP. What do you think? Good direction, bad direction?

Ken McConnell Copy Edits Complete

I have finished my initial pass on the Copy Edits for NP and now I am proofing the manuscript one last time before sending the final version to Byron. He will clean up the copy, insert it into the rest of the sections of the book and then send it back to me for the very last proofing. So, we are getting down to the wire. There were several reoccurring writer mistakes that were made in the NP manuscript, and when I can get the time, I will make a post about them. This is to ensure that I have le… Continue

Ken McConnell Copy Edits, Cover Changes and a Guest Appearance

Null_Pointer was recently edited by writer friend, Angela Abderhalden. I'm going as fast as I can through the manuscript and making her changes. NP is going to be a much easier read and will make more sense over-all thanks to her efforts. Byron and I are also reworking the cover to better suit the mystery genre market. I hope to have the entire book ready for publishing late May or early June of this year. Lots of folks who have read it online or have read beta books are anxious t… Continue
